Replacement Vape Coils
Coils are the beating heart of every good vape kit, turning e-liquid into deliciously thick, satisfying clouds of flavour. That’s why we stock high-quality coils from vaping heavy-hitters like Innokin, SMOK, and Vaporesso so that you can keep your vaping experience at its best.
With high-resistance coils for intensely smooth MTL (mouth-to-lung) vaping, low-resistance coils for an exhilarating DTL (direct-to-lung) experience, and everything in between, our extensive coil range has something for everyone.
What Are Coils?
A coil is where your vape device transforms your e-liquid into tasty vapour. It slots into your device's tank and is made from two key components: the wick and the coil wire itself.
When you pour e-liquid into your vape tank, the liquid is soaked up by your coil’s wicking material. This is known as priming the coil. Wicks can be made from a few different things, but they’re usually made from absorbent cotton.
Once you press your firing button – or activate via inhalation – your coil wire heats up rapidly, vapourising the juice that’s been soaked up by the wick. Once you finish drawing, you’ll be treated to a mouthful of flavoursome vapour!
When Should You Replace Your Coil?
Coils degrade over time, usually as a result of the wick burning as a result of repeated reheating. This is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. It just means that to continue enjoying rich flavour, you’ll need to replace your coil every now and then to keep things ship-shape.
You can tell when you need to change your coil by keeping an eye on three factors: taste, smell, and look.
When the coil tastes bad, the coil has become burnt or oversaturated. When the coil smells bad, it is often a sign that you’re using too high of a wattage, damaging your coil and requiring a replacement. You can also look at the wick in your coil to see the state it’s in. Most wicks start out white but degrade over extended use.
How Long Do Coils Last?
There’s no exact timeframe for how long a coil will last. Some may last days, others may last weeks on end.
Generally speaking, we’d expect a moderately-used plus-ohm coil to last for upwards of three weeks, while sub-ohm coils might last around one week.
That being said, though, some sub-ohm coils can have a very impressive lifespan! If you enjoy your sub-ohm coil at a lower wattage, the coil does not reach the same high temperatures, helping to greatly preserve its lifespan.
What Coil Is Right for Your Tank/Kit?
Remember that vape coils aren’t universal; the type you’ll need will depend on the brand or tank you’re using.
For example, if you use a VOOPOO kit, chances are you won’t be able to use an Aspire coil.
But checking the brand isn’t all you need to do! Each manufacturer has a large variety of devices, so be sure to check the exact coil you need before making a purchase. The coil will often share the same name as your device’s model and the compatible coils will be on manual in your vape kit box.
If you’re unsure which coil you need, it’s best to check the product description of your vape kit, or get in touch with a member of our helpful team.
What Are Coil Resistances and Ohms?
Each coil has a different resistance. The resistance of a coil is how much the conductive wire resists the electrical charge sent from the battery.
Some coils have a low resistance, while others have a high resistance. Electricity can flow easily through a low-resistance coil, allowing it to heat up more. High-resistance coils, on the other hand, heat up slower.
This resistance is measured in ‘ohms’ (Ω). This is why you’ll see coils listed with resistances like 0.15Ω and 1.2Ω.
Lower-resistance coils range from 0.1-0.6Ωs and are better suited to direct-to-lung (DTL) vaping. Higher-resistance coils range from 0.8Ω and above and are designed for the mouth-to-lung (MTL) vaping style preferred by ex-smokers.
Any coil with a resistance below 1.0Ω is considered “sub-ohm”. Coils with a resistance above 1.0Ω are considered “plus-ohm”. Be sure to check which coil resistances your device is compatible with before making a purchase!
